It has come to my attention that there is another website out there very similar to mine, but not quite the same. It is called www.campusclimateindex.org and it is run by a non-profit organization you can find at www.campuspride.net. On both sites, you will find lots of great information concerning the LGBT student community, and I can say that my site will also soon contain such valuable content, as it continues to grow. Hey, it’s version 1.0 whatta you expect?
Anyway, so campusclimateindex.org is the one that’s very similar to mine, but there are some differences. I’ll point out the major ones:
1. Their rating system is scientific, and contains ratings based on information gathered from faculty working on college campuses in America. My rating system is opinion based, and is made up of the opinions of the students who go to American colleges, as guided by the 5 survey questions I have listed.
2. I do not know how often their surveys are sent to college faculty, but being practical I would say anywhere from 1 to 3 times a year. The student votes on my site are compiled in real-time, as are the rankings of the colleges according to those votes.
There are of course, other differences, but hey, my site is a work in progress, and is only a couple weeks old. As you’ve read in previous posts, I am constantly updating and adding features, and soon each user will be able to elaborate on exactly why they’ve voted a certain way.
Anyway, so I wanted to say a bit about my “competitor”, though we are both working to make a difference for the LGBT student community, so I really don’t like to use that word. But yeah, check them out, see what you think, use the information on their site as well as on mine, and go from there. Hey, like I said, my site is based on your opinions, so form your own, and learn to use them. That IS why you’re in college, is it not?
